The Berks County Prevention Coalition
The Berks County Prevention Coalition is a substance abuse prevention
coalition aimed at implementing projects, initiatives, strategies and
programs in an effort to promote environmental and social policy change in
the Berks County Community. The coalition strives to affect change in
Berks
County as it relates to youth and their use of alcohol, tobacco and other
drugs and uses student surveys to illustrate youth's reduction of use and
increase their perception of risk and harm.
The Berks County Prevention Coalition Board, comprised of
representatives
from various sectors of the Berks County community, operate as a checks and
balance to ensure adequate measures are taken by the coalitions, committees,
and task forces' prevention efforts. The board members are comprised
of
representatives from the existing 8 coalitions, committees and task forces
(Ecstasy and Other Club Drugs Task Force, Community Mobilization, Tobacco
Free Berks Coalition, Strengthening Families Coalition, Communities That
Care Coalition, Minority Affairs Committee, Youth Development Committee and
Underage Drinking Coalition). The board meets on a monthly basis to
discuss
programmatic issues and monitor the progress of the goals and objectives of
the Berks County Prevention Coalition.
