Supporting Healthy Marriage
Research Project (SHM)
Mission Statement:
Three organizations in southeastern Pennsylvania are participating
in a national Supporting Healthy Marriage Research Project. The mission of the
Pennsylvania SHM project is to provide low-income families with the opportunity
to participate in a national research project that will determine the effects of
a program that combines family support and case management services with
marriage enhancement education and skill building training.
Goals:
The goal of the Pennsylvania SHM
project is to increase the number of healthy marriages among low-income couples
with children through:
-
Delivery of
marriage enhancement and skills training
-
Building
social supports
-
Increasing
access to and utilization of needed community resources
This project will
provide the benefits of a healthy or healthier marriage to the couples, their
children, and their communities. The ultimate benefit will be a decrease in
divorce, family instability, substance abuse & addiction, criminal activity and
other social problems such as child abuse and neglect.
Funding:
Funding for the SHM project is provided by the Administration for
